What is Yoribang and what can I do here?

Yoribang is a free, private recipe box. Save recipes from anywhere, change the servings, keep your own notes, make a shopping list and cook step by step.

You can also browse hundreds of free recipes in Discover (no account needed) and save a copy of any you like.

I just joined. What should I do first?

Add one recipe you love: choose Add recipe at the top, then type it in, paste the text, paste a web address, paste an Instagram caption, or upload a photo or PDF.

Open it and try the servings buttons, then add it to your shopping list. If you would rather look around first, press Try 3 sample recipes on an empty recipe box, or save something from Discover.

The Get started checklist on Your recipes keeps track of what you have tried. The tour button there points out the main buttons.

Where is everything? How do I get around?

The top bar has Add recipe and a menu with your name on it. Open the menu to reach everything else: your account, What can I cook?, the shopping list, recipes shared with you, Community, Discover, recipe sources, inviting friends, installing on your phone, saving from any website, Help and the quick tour. The next section of this page explains each one.

Your recipes is the home page once you are signed in. The Yoribang logo always takes you back to it.

On any page that has a tour, a round ? button in the bottom corner offers a quick tour of that page and the matching help.

How do I add a recipe?

Choose Add recipe. You can type it in, paste the recipe's text, paste a web address and let Yoribang read the page, paste an Instagram caption, or upload a photo, screenshot or PDF of it. You always get to check and edit the recipe before it is saved.

Fill in only what you know. A title is enough to start; ingredients and steps can be added later.

  1. Press Add recipe at the top of any page.
  2. Choose how: Web address, Instagram, Photo or PDF, Paste text, or Type it in.
  3. Check what Yoribang filled in and fix anything. Cuisine and tags are suggested from your own.
  4. Press Save. Nothing is stored until you do.

How do I save a recipe from another website?

Copy the recipe page's web address and paste it in Add recipe. Your copy stays yours even if the original site changes or disappears.

For one-click saving while you browse, add the Yoribang bookmark button to your browser. On Android, you can also share a page to the installed app.

Can I add a recipe from a photo, screenshot or PDF?

Yes. Press Add recipe, choose the Photo or PDF tab and pick the file. A PDF that has real text (one you downloaded, not a scan) is read right on Yoribang. A photo of a cookbook page or handwritten card, a screenshot, or a PDF that is only a scan is sent to an AI service (OpenAI) to read. If the recipe is on more than one page, for example the ingredients on one photo and the steps on another, add up to 5 files (pick them together or one after another, in order) and they are read as one recipe. The files are not saved.

You always get an editable form to check before anything is saved. Compare amounts and steps with the original, because the AI can misread blurry or handwritten text. Files can be up to 8 MB, and a PDF up to 12 pages.

How do I save a recipe from Instagram?

Instagram doesn't let other websites open its posts, so Yoribang can't fetch an Instagram recipe for you. Instead you copy two things from the post, paste them into Yoribang, and Yoribang sorts the text into a recipe. It takes about a minute, and it's easy once you've done it once.

You get your own private copy of the recipe, with a button on it that takes you back to the original post. Nothing is saved until you press Save.

  1. Open the post in the Instagram app. Tap the paper-plane (share) icon under it, then choose Copy link.
  2. Open Yoribang. Press Add recipe at the top, then choose the Instagram tab.
  3. Tap Paste next to Post link. Your link appears. You can skip this step, but then your recipe won't have a button back to the post.
  4. Go back to Instagram and find the caption, which is the text under the post. If it is cut off, tap more. Touch and hold the text and choose Copy.
  5. Come back to Yoribang and tap Paste next to Caption.
  6. Press Sort it out. Yoribang picks out the title, ingredients and steps and shows them to you.
  7. Read it over and fix anything that looks wrong, like a missing amount. Then press Save recipe.

The recipe I saved from Instagram came out wrong or half empty. What can I do?

Captions are written for people, not computers, so some come out neat and some don't. Yoribang only uses what is in the text you pasted and never guesses, so a missing item means it wasn't in the caption, or was written in a way Yoribang couldn't tell apart from the rest.

You always get to check the recipe before it is saved, and you can fix everything on that screen. Use Add ingredient or Add step for anything missing, and Paste a list under Ingredients to drop in several lines at once.

Many reels only say the recipe out loud or show it on screen, with nothing in the caption. In that case there is nothing to paste: watch the video, then tap No caption? Type it in on the Instagram tab. The form opens with your post link already in Where it came from, so you only write the ingredients and steps.

If you see a Tidy up with AI button, it sends the caption text you pasted to an AI service (OpenAI) to sort it. It only appears when the plain sorting found little, and it only runs if you press it. It can misread an amount, so check every line.

Is a recipe I save from Instagram private?

Yes. Like every recipe in Yoribang it is private to your account until you choose to share it. Yoribang never visits Instagram and never contacts the person who posted it. It only uses the text you pasted.

Remember the recipe is someone else's work. Keep the link to the original post, and credit them if you share it.

What is Discover and how do I save one?

Discover has free recipes from many countries, each with its source and license. Open one to read it, then press the save button to put a copy in your own recipe box, where you can change it freely.

Recipes you have already saved are left out of the suggestions on Your recipes.

Browse Discover

How do I add a photo to my recipe?

Open the recipe and use the photo controls. One photo per recipe; it is private to you unless you share the recipe.

How do I find a recipe in my box?

Type in the search box, or use the filters for cuisine, tags, category, total time and ingredients. Sort by recent, A to Z, last cooked, most cooked or top rated. Favorites are one tap away.

Add your own notes (private to you), or press Make my version to get a copy you can edit while the original stays as it was.

Cooking

How do I change the number of servings?

On a recipe, change the servings and every amount follows. Cooking times and temperatures stay exactly as written, because they do not scale with quantity.

  1. Open a recipe and find Servings above the ingredients.
  2. Press + or − or type a number, such as 6 or 1 1/2. Every amount follows.
  3. Press Reset to go back to the original. Your change is for viewing; the saved recipe does not change.
What if I am missing an ingredient?

Use the swap options on a recipe to replace ingredients, including dairy-free, gluten-free, egg-free, nut-free and vegan options, with the right amounts.

What can I cook? lets you tick what is in your kitchen and shows which of your recipes you can make now.

  1. Open a recipe and press Swap ingredients for a diet.
  2. Choose dairy-free, gluten-free, egg-free, nut-free or vegan.
  3. Each swapped line shows what it replaced. Undo all swaps puts the original back.
  4. For allergies always read the labels yourself: hidden ingredients can't be seen.

What can I cook?

What is cooking mode?

Press Cook on a recipe for cooking mode. It shows one big step at a time, keeps your screen awake, and starts timers from the times written in the steps. It works even with a weak connection.

  1. Open a recipe and press Cook.
  2. Press Next and Back to move through the steps. When a step mentions a time, a timer button appears: press it to start. The Ingredients button shows the list, with the same servings buttons.
  3. At the end, press Log that I cooked it to record the date, a rating and a note.
How do I keep track of what I cooked?

Press I cooked this on a recipe (or Log that I cooked it at the end of cooking mode) to log the date, a rating and a short note. Recipes then sort by last cooked, most cooked and top rated.

Where are the cup, gram and oven temperature conversions?

The Conversions page has charts for cups, spoons, ounces and grams, plus a Fahrenheit and Celsius converter. It is open to everyone.
