Gamja Jorim

Small potatoes simmered in a shiny sweet soy glaze. A lunch box staple.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb small potatoes, peeled and halved
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice syrup or honey
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds

Steps

  1. Step 1. Heat the oil in a pot over medium heat and stir the potatoes for 2 minutes.

  2. Step 2. Add the soy sauce, sugar, water, and garlic. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer for 12 minutes.

  3. Step 3. Uncover, add the syrup, and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, turning the potatoes, until tender and the sauce is thick and glossy.

  4. Step 4. Stir in the sesame oil, sprinkle with seeds, and serve warm or cold.
