Marinara Sauce

A simple tomato sauce with garlic and basil that cooks in 25 minutes. Use it on pasta or pizza.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, sliced
  • 1 can (28 oz) whole peeled tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 6 fresh basil leaves

Steps

  1. Step 1. Warm the oil and garlic in a pot over medium-low heat for 2 minutes, until fragrant but not browned.

  2. Step 2. Crush the tomatoes with your hands and add them with their juice, the salt, sugar, and pepper flakes.

  3. Step 3. Simmer, stirring now and then, for 20 minutes until thickened.

  4. Step 4. Tear in the basil. Keeps 5 days in the fridge or 3 months frozen.
