Jamaican Beef Patties
Flaky turmeric pastry pockets filled with spiced ground beef.

Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1/2 cup ice water
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon curry powder
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup beef stock
- 1 egg, beaten
Steps
Step 1. Mix the flour, turmeric, and salt, cut in the butter until crumbly, and add the ice water to form a dough. Chill for 1 hour.
Step 2. Cook the beef for 8 minutes until no longer pink. Add the onion, garlic, and spices for 5 minutes. Stir in the breadcrumbs and stock and cook 5 minutes. Cool.
Step 3. Roll the dough thin and cut 6-inch circles. Put 3 tablespoons of filling on each, fold over, and crimp the edges.
Step 4. Brush with the egg and bake at 400°F for 25 to 30 minutes until golden and hot throughout (165°F).
