Biscuits and Sausage Gravy

Fluffy biscuits under a peppery, creamy sausage gravy. A hearty Southern breakfast.

Biscuits and Sausage Gravy

Ingredients

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne, optional
  • 4 to 6 baked biscuits, split

Steps

  1. Step 1. Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat for 8 minutes, breaking it up, until browned and cooked through (160°F) with no pink.

  2. Step 2. Sprinkle in the flour and stir for 1 minute.

  3. Step 3. Slowly pour in the milk, stirring. Simmer for 5 to 7 minutes until thick.

  4. Step 4. Season with the salt, pepper, and cayenne. Spoon over the biscuits.
