Easy Brown Gravy

A deep, savory brown gravy from butter, flour, and beef stock. No drippings needed.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste

Steps

  1. Step 1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring, until it turns the color of peanut butter.

  2. Step 2. Slowly whisk in the stock.

  3. Step 3. Add the Worcestershire, soy sauce, onion powder, and pepper.

  4. Step 4. Simmer for 5 to 8 minutes until thick. Season with salt.
