Brazilian White Rice

Fluffy rice toasted with garlic and onion, the base of an everyday Brazilian plate.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1/4 cup finely diced onion
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups long-grain white rice
  • 3 cups hot water
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Steps

  1. Step 1. Heat the oil in a pot and cook the onion and garlic for 2 minutes.

  2. Step 2. Add the rice and stir for 2 minutes until the grains turn opaque.

  3. Step 3. Add the hot water and salt. Bring to a boil, then cover and cook on low for 15 minutes.

  4. Step 4. Rest 5 minutes and fluff with a fork.
