Greek meatballs with mint and oregano, fried until crisp and served with tzatziki.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1 onion, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup stale bread, soaked in water and squeezed
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons chopped mint
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup olive oil, for frying

Steps

  1. Step 1. Mix the beef, pork, onion, garlic, bread, egg, herbs, salt, and pepper until combined. Chill 30 minutes.

  2. Step 2. Roll into 24 balls and coat lightly in the flour.

  3. Step 3. Fry in the oil in batches for 8 to 10 minutes, turning, until browned and cooked through (160°F).

  4. Step 4. Drain and serve hot with tzatziki and lemon.
