Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro

Steps

  1. Step 1. Mix the flour, yeast, sugar, salt, yogurt, milk, and oil into a soft dough. Knead 5 minutes. Cover and rise for 1 hour.

  2. Step 2. Divide into 6 balls and roll each into a 7-inch oval.

  3. Step 3. Heat a cast-iron pan over high heat until very hot. Cook each naan for 1 to 2 minutes, until bubbles form, then flip and cook 1 minute until charred in spots.

  4. Step 4. Stir the garlic and cilantro into the butter, brush on the naan, and keep warm in a towel.

Original Yoribang write-ups of Indian dishes. Spices like garam masala, cumin, coriander, and turmeric are sold in most supermarkets. Ghee, paneer, basmati rice, and lentils are at Indian grocery stores. Start with less chili, since heat varies a lot by brand.
