Pandesal

Soft, slightly sweet bread rolls coated in breadcrumbs. A Filipino breakfast staple.

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup fine breadcrumbs

Steps

  1. Step 1. Mix the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add the milk, butter, and egg and knead for 8 minutes until smooth. Cover and rise for 1 hour.

  2. Step 2. Roll the dough into a log and cut into 12 pieces. Roll each in the breadcrumbs.

  3. Step 3. Place cut side down on a baking sheet. Cover and rise 45 minutes.

  4. Step 4. Bake at 375°F for 15 to 20 minutes until golden. Eat warm.
